Hays, Kan. – BonAppetit.com’s digital page-a-day calendar, “365 Days of Eating American”, features the Smothered Bierock from local restaurant and microbrewery, Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co., located at 117 E 11th in downtown Hays. Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co.’s Smothered Bierock is Bon Appetit’s featured dish for March 21.

Midwest Deutsche Oktoberfest offers insight into all things German while Fort Hays State University’s Oktoberfest serves as the kick off for FHSU homecoming. Both festivals offer German food, music, dancing and of course, beer! After Oktoberfest, Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. is the place to be according to KANSAS! magazine.

Cottage Living JOURNEYS: September/October 2008
Recommended for its regionally inspired menu, handcrafted beer, service and overall atmosphere, Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co., received an acclaimed review in the September/October 2008 issue of Journeys, a travel magazine distributed to 674,000 regional members with nationwide distribution to 1.5 million readers. In the full-page feature entitled “Hearty Hays Hangout”, the restaurant is reviewed in detail from presentation of signature dishes, heart healthy selections and handcrafted house brews to the monthly New Beer’s Eve Celebration.

Cottage Living COTTAGE LIVING: May/June 2008
Two Kansas towns, Hays and Plainville, gain national attention in Cottage Living magazine’s May/June 2008 issue covering the “Summer’s Best Havens & Hideaways”. Cottage Living writer, Haskell Harris, visited the towns in February 2007 hoping to discover cottages to feature in the magazine. But, a snowstorm left her stranded in Hays giving her the chance to sample some Lb. Brews and explore the shops in downtown Hays’ Chestnut Street District.

Renovation Style RENOVATION STYLE: Spring 2007

Citing renovations in Plainville, Hays and New York, Renovation Style magazine details how Kansas native, Chuck Comeau, progressed from petroleum geology to co-founding one of the top five luxury home-furnishing firms in the nation as well as Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. And how in the process, Comeau began re-storing properties for the rural economic development of his hometown and neighboring communities.

In the Spring 2007 feature entitled “Making a Difference”, writer Sally Finder-Koziol describes how Comeau is giving old buildings new glory. Through design Comeau is making the buildings prime locations not only for his businesses but the businesses of other Kansas entrepreneurs.


Romantic Homes ROMANTIC HOMES: October 2006

While most people don’t equate Hays, Kan. with fine shopping, they should according to Erika Kotite, Editor-at-Large for Romantic Homes magazine. In the October 2006 issue, Kotite cites eight downtown Hays businesses, including Gella's Diner & Lb. Brewing Co., for turning Kansas into more of a destination spot.

Kotite credits Hays for embracing a widening cadre of artists and craftspeople to create the gourmet eateries, upscale retail shops, and art and graphic design studios that line Hays’ Main Street today.


ALL ABOUT BEER: May 2006

To quote two writers from All About Beer magazine, Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. has put Hays on the “craft-beer map”. Paul Ruschmann and Maryanne Nasiatka included Hays’ downtown microbrewery and restaurant in their article for the May issue. Touted as a “first-class” brewpub, the writers learned of Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. while attending the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.


KANSAS CITY STAR: August 21, 2005

Just days before opening Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co., Kansas City Star reporter, Stacy Downs, previewed the food and brews for her article “Plainsman Crafts A Simple, Sublime Vision”. The article was picked up by a national wire service and appeared in over 20 metropolitan papers across the nation.
